The scenic landscape of Burnaby Mountain served as the perfect backdrop for this year’s Run Up for Down Syndrome, an annual fundraiser organized by the Down Syndrome Research Foundation with proceeds going towards enhancing the quality of the foundation’s resources and programs.

This year we had a record turnout of over 600 participants taking part in either the 1.5k walk or the 5k walk/run. We had individual walkers and runners as well as friends and family members taking part in team challenges. The BC Lions’ mascot, Leo was once again on hand to conduct the warm-up session and serve as a guide on the 1.5k walk helping and encouraging the younger participants. As individuals and teams crossed the finish line, and their placing recorded, it was time to hand out prizes for the first place male and female in each category. Of course our younger runners and walkers did not leave empty handed as they were also treated to raffle prizes and goodie bags.

On the whole, this year’s event was by the far the most successful and it could not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors.

We would also like to thank John Crosby and Tom Skinner from BCBikeRace for their help in co-coordinating the day’s events and for serving as our fabulous hosts. We would also like to extend a thank you to Ken and Lou Ryan and their hard-working team for supplying us with the day’s food and drink.

We would like to thank our dedicated group of volunteers including our events and fundraising committee, staff, parents, students and community members who worked tirelessly in an effort to make this event such a success.

Last but certainly not least, we would like to say thank you to all of our run/walk participants and to the family and friends who generously supported them through their pledges. We are grateful for your ongoing support of the DSRF and look forward to seeing you again next year.
