| People in Place by 2010 Campaign is Launched to Encourage Prince George Businesses to Hire More People with Disabilities
The Prince George Chamber of Commerce announced the campaign following one of their luncheons last month. It is hoped the campaign will encourage Prince George businesses to increase employment of persons with disabilities by 10 per cent by 2010.
People in Place by 2010 launched a website, www.peopleinplace.ca where people with disabilities can post resumes and employers can post job orders, as well as a series of ads featuring testimonials from local people. Canadian Tire manager Selen Alpay, who had plenty of praise for his employees with disabilities is a believer. The key, in Alpay''s view, is to focus on what they can bring to the table. "We don''t hire people with disabilities," he said by way of explanation during a speech at the luncheon. "We hire people with the skills and talent to make our business a success." The Chamber will host breakfast workshops to help businesses who want to hire people with disabilities. For more information, call the chamber at 250.562-2454 or e-mail: chamber@pgchamber.bc.ca |
