Our Programs

Much has been learned over the last 30 years about Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities yet there are still misconceptions about learning potential and best practice in education. Many programs, including those in the public school system, prioritize supervision over education. Once past high school there are few opportunities to make up for lost ground and those with limited ability to read and communicate often struggle to find meaningful community participation.

Our experience has been that adolescence is a peak time for learning. With instruction that is both specialized and individualized, supplemented by optimal health care, the outcomes can be significant.  The results speak for themselves: young adults who are confident, self-reliant, resourceful, in social relationships, and able to make positive contributions to their community. At the Down Syndrome Research Foundation, our educational programs, offered through the Centre for Specialized Learning (CSL), are designed to provide the necessary skills for quality and purposeful inclusion in the following areas:
