DSRF Library Services

The Down Syndrome Research Foundation library collectio features more than 1,400 books and resources covering all aspects of Down syndrome and related conditions.

Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm (PST)

Annual Fee: The $40 annual DSRF membership fee includes borrowing privileges of library materials. Click here to become a member of DSRF.

Services: While the library is open to the general public for reference purposes, only current registered members may borrow materials from the collection. Services are available on a cost recovery basis to:

  • researchers working in the field of developmental disabilities
  • Canadian Down syndrome service organizations
  • doctors and other medical caregivers
  • other persons approved by the Down Syndrome Research Foundation

Books

In Vancouver / Lower Mainland: three weeks plus one renewal of two weeks
Outside of the Lower Mainland: four weeks plus one renewal of two weeks

Audiovisual Materials

In Vancouver / Lower Mainland: one week plus one renewal of one week
Outside of the Lower Mainland: two weeks plus one renewal of one week

Remote Borrowing: Remote borrowing privileges are available to members of the Down Syndrome Research Foundation at no charge, except for the cost of shipping.

  • Search our online catalogue to decide which resources you would like to borrow (Tip: save items to the Clipboard for easy reference).
  • Call us at 604-444-3773 to request your resources, and to provide your credit card number for shipping charges only,
  • Wait for your resources to arrive and then enjoy!

Returning Resources:

  • Please return resources by the date provided in your resource package.
  • Each package you receive in the mail will include a prepaid mailing envelope or prepaid mailing label for shipping resources back to the Down Syndrome Research Foundation.

Late Returns: Borrowers will receive a reminder of overdue books. The daily fine will be 50¢ per day. Lost or damaged books: An invoice will be sent to the borrower for the replacement cost of the material

Journal Article Copying: The office photocopier may be used to copy material. Members will be charged 10¢ per page, with non-members paying 20¢ per page.

Interlibrary Loans: The library provides an interlibrary loan service for members and non-members requesting articles from our collection. Books are loaned to institutions outside of British Columbia at the discretion of DSRF.

Member ILL requests: $5.00 for up to 15 pages $7.50 for 16 pages and greater.
External ILL requests: $10 for up to 15 pages $15 for 16 pages and greater.

Computer Access: The library has two computers that are used to access our catalogue and also websites on the Internet. Members will be charged 10¢ per page for printing from the Internet. Non-members will be charged 20¢ per page for printing from the Internet.
