Embracing Success: Enhancing Quality of Life for People with Down Syndrome
Parents and educators play a crucial role in preparing students with Down syndrome for a life that reflects full inclusion in the community and labour force. Full participation is enhanced when citizens are able to read, understand, and conduct daily monetary transactions with independence. Successful teaching will reflect an understanding of the learning strengths and challenges associated with Down syndrome, and incorporate strategies to increase student engagement. New Parent Series 2017-18
The Down Syndrome Research Foundation is pleased to present our New Parent Series from September 2017 to June 2018. This series will be offered on Saturday mornings from 10 am to 12 pm for parents of newborns to age five, and provides an opportunity for families to meet other families while learning about Down syndrome from experienced professionals. Family Information Series 2017-18
The Down Syndrome Research Foundation is pleased to present our Family Information Series from September 2017 to June 2018. This series will be offered on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30, for parents and relatives of children with Down syndrome of any age, and provides an opportunity for families to meet other families while hearing from professionals who are happy to share their expertise. The sessions will be at DSRF (1409 Sperling Avenue in Burnaby) and light refreshments will be served. Click here to learn more.
Educator Series 2017
Please join DSRF speech language pathologists and teachers for a comprehensive 8 part series of workshops designed to maximize successful classroom participation for learners with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. This series is for classroom teachers, resource teachers, education assistants and other professionals who work in the school setting.
The series will be held at the Down Syndrome Research Foundation 1409 Sperling Avenue in Burnaby from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on the following Tuesday and Thursday evenings: September 19, 21, 26, 28, and October 3, 5, 10, 12. Light refreshments will be served. The cost is $100 for the entire series or $20 for each individual session. A certificate of completion will be issued for participants who attend the entire series.
