Leave a Legacy that Lasts Beyond Your Years
At the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation, we are working towards a Canada that values and empowers people with Down syndrome, fostering economic, social, and individual inclusion throughout their lives.
Our generous donors help us put this into meaningful action every day. This essential support helps students with Down syndrome gain the skills and confidence they need to fully be their authentic selves while finding their place in the community, and gives families hope for their child’s future.
What better way to leave a legacy than to ensure this vital work continues long into the future?
November is Make a Will Month. Have you considered the impact you can make by including DSRF in your estate planning?
For the past 30 years, the work of the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation has been near and dear to my heart. As my daughter Jodi has grown up at DSRF, I have seen firsthand the deep impact that this organization has in the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families.
Through the decades, it has been my privilege to support DSRF financially, as well as through my time as a Board member. Knowing that I have played some small part in helping thousands of people with Down syndrome receive the services they need to thrive gives me tremendous satisfaction.
None of us likes to think about the day we will no longer be here – and I don’t plan on leaving any time soon! But I do know that I want DSRF to be doing its great work long after I’m gone. That’s why I have chosen to include the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation in my estate planning. I want to leave a legacy of empowering people with Down syndrome that lasts far into the future. I encourage you to consider doing the same.

A gift through your will or trust is perhaps the easiest and most flexible way to help ensure that we continue our mission for years to come. You can specify a gift of any amount or percentage in your will, or name the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation as a contingent beneficiary of a life insurance policy. Other options include gifts of RRSPs, RRIFs or TFSAs, gifts from your Donor Advised Fund, appreciated securities, or real estate.
A legacy gift potentially allows you to make a greater financial contribution than would be possible at any other time in your life, and is a demonstration of your commitment to creating a bright future for people with Down syndrome. There may also be tax savings depending on the assets you designate for a gift from your estate.
DSRF’s fund development team can help you determine the best way to leave the legacy you intend. Talking about your intentions with your family and financial advisors is also important to ensure your wishes are properly executed and appropriate for your circumstances.
If you are considering leaving a legacy gift to DSRF, we would love to speak with you! Please reach out to set up an appointment. Thank you for helping people with Down syndrome thrive at every stage of life.
