The Melanie Laird Memorial Benefits of Bocce

The Melanie Laird Memorial Benefits of Bocce, held in loving memory of our Dancing Queen, will take place on August 17, 2019 at the North Vancouver Bocce Pits

Sat. August 17, 2019
8:00 am - 4:00 pm
North Vancouver Bocce Pits at Boulevard Park

We suffered a terrible loss this spring when Melanie Laird, a former student and founding member of DSRF, passed away very unexpectedly.

Long-time Benefits of Bocce participants will no doubt remember Melanie for her non-stop, joyful dancing - proving that her "Dancing Queen" nickname was well earned indeed.

Our annual bocce tournament was one of Melanie's favourite events of the year, and she will be dearly missed as we hit the courts this August. However, she will be with us in spirit as we present the Melanie Laird Memorial Benefits of Bocce in her honour.

Please join us as we remember Melanie and discover why she loved this event so much. Soak up some sun, crank up the tunes, crack open a beverage and unleash your competitive side as you pursue the hotly contested Benefits of Bocce championship trophy.

In between games, enjoy a delicious lunch, a ticketed bar, a selection of valuable silent auction prizes, 50/50 draw, great music and awesome people.

Benefits of Bocce is hosted by the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation, a Burnaby-based organization that empowers individuals with Down syndrome to reach their full potential as contributing members of the community. All funds raised through the event are used to fund critical effective educational programming and therapy services for people of all ages with Down syndrome.

Bocce teams consist of 4 players. Register a full team, or register as an individual and we will place you on a squad. Spectators can purchase lunch tickets for $25 through the registration form.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Pit Sponsorship ($500): Pit sponsors will have logo signage at each end of one pit at the event, and will have that pit named after them on all event schedules; medium colour logo on the event website and the website; recognition on DSRF Twitter and Facebook accounts

What to Bring

Benefits of Bocce will happen rain or shine, and in past years we've experienced both! As we all know, weather can be unpredictable. Layer your clothing, as we are playing all day and the temperature will fluctuate. Please plan ahead to be comfortable and relaxed. We recommend bringing a folding chair, umbrella, blanket, water, sunscreen, and a hat.
